• Impact

Aligning people, priority, policy, and performance.

I am a purpose-driven executive leader, innovative problem solver, experienced liaison, and trusted advisor with a successful track record translating long-term vision into emergent strategy with a bias toward agile execution. I am adept at translating uncertain, complex, ambiguous, and conflicting information into logical and actionable plans.

My skill set incorporates emotional intelligence, unassuming self-confidence, acumen for managing projects, penchant for mentoring cross-functional teams, honed expertise communicating with empathy, and awareness for exercising discretion and protecting confidentiality. I sustain influence, adaptability, optimism, and integrity with networked teams in fast-paced situations.

I take responsibility for promoting diversity and inclusion. I earnestly attempt to be aware of my privilege and unconscious bias, have empathy for the challenges that others face, laud human difference, promote fair and just practices, seek structural barriers adversely affecting marginalized individuals and systemic changes to remove those barriers, and intentionally foster welcoming, safe spaces where everyone has value and voice for the free and thoughtful exchange of ideas.

  • Force Multiplier

Chiefs of Staff are force multipliers across all areas of the business. Having the right strategy and culture is not enough: we also navigate uncertainty and risk while getting things gone. Execution makes the difference. It requires a winning combination of people, priority, policy, and performance.

    Priority

Narrow the focus on the fewest number of goals with the highest potential impact on accomplishing desired outcomes when emerging ideas do not have boundaries but resources do.

    Policy

Define the opportunity for change, collaboratively formulate policy alternatives based on mission and values, determine effective policy and corresponding procedures to achieve organizational goals, and conduct ongoing evaluation with periodic reviews.

    Performance

I devised strategy, supervised programs, assessed outcomes, managed operations, and raised $2 million in support of workforce-relevant talent development programs linking college students to careers. NOCHE achieved national acclaim as the Talent Dividend Million Dollar Prize winner for increasing college degree production in Greater Akron by 20% in four years. NOCHE spurred economic development by engaging business, philanthropic, community, educational, governmental, and not-for-profit organizations to raise postsecondary educational attainment in 23 counties including about 40 colleges and universities.

I strategized on direct marketing with 11 university clients: each engagement was about one month to develop parameters for name buys using predictive analytics and institutional research, and subsequently compile marketing campaign outcomes reports and corresponding evaluations.

My contributions included advising new first-time, transfer, and adult students; leading direct marketing and student search campaigns utilizing predictive analytics, strategic prospect list development, variable-data printing, and personalized online communications; and integrating college-wide graphic identities and marketing communications.

Shawn was a valuable member of our team at Hiram College. He was a very talented individual, able to wear many hats. This was largely due to his ability to process vast amounts of information, focus in on what is truly important and be able to communicate with others to contribute to group success.
